In the earlier seasons we were told that Abby's parents were deaf. In a new episode, we learn Abby was adopted. Why would they let 2 deaf people adopt a kid? I hate it when the writers don't follow their own storylines.
I’ll still stick this in a confession graphic but according to adoption.com a deaf couple may adopt: Jamie Berke, the Guide to Deafness/Hard of Hearing at About.com, is an adoptive parent, successful businessperson, and she’s deaf. Her own experience led her to establish a listing of deaf children awaiting adoption, the Deaf Adoption News Service .
Actually, any disabled person/persons may adopt, it is up to the agency to determine if both parents are severely disabled enough to not care for the child (Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Now if you don’t live in the US, then that’s a different story.
So yes, Abby’s story is believable for an American television show.
